What if the weather isn’t suitable for my flight?
If it rains you can rebook the flight for another day that suits you.

How do I get started?
For more information on learning to fly, all you need to do is contact us by email or phone and we will send out an Information Pack. You are also welcome to visit our base at Ardmore airfield to check out our facility, view our aircraft and ask any further questions you may have.

Can I study part time?
Absolutely. Our instructors will tailor a training programme to suit your timeframe and work schedule.

How many hours does it take to do a PPL?
You must have a minimum of 50 hours flight time. This is comprised of 35 hours dual instruction, and 15 hours solo (PIC) flight.

How many hours does it take to do a CPL?
You must have a minimum of 150 hours flight time. This includes the flight time achieved from your PPL. Your CPL hours will comprise a minimum of 35 hours dual instruction, and 35 hours solo (PIC) flight.

How long will it take to get my PPL?
A fulltime student could expect to complete their training over approximately four months. However there is no time limit on your training and many part time students complete their training over a period of 12 months.

How long will it take to get my CPL?
A fulltime student could expect to complete their training over approximately 9 months. However there is no time limit on your training and many part time students complete their training over a period of 24 months.

How much will it cost to learn to fly?
A PPL Licence will cost approximately $31,000 (based on the legal minimum of 50 hours) and a CPL Licence will cost approximately $91,000 (this is based on the legal minimum of 150 hours, which includes the hours obtained from the PPL). Call us to discuss payment options available.

Do you do theory training?
Yes. Ardmore Helicopters Ltd conducts fulltime NZQA approved theory courses in conjunction with our associate company Ardmore Flying School. Class sizes are kept to a minimum and our students consistently achieve high results.

What employment opportunities are there in the helicopter industry?
Ardmore Helicopters Ltd is approved to conduct Air Transport and Commercial Transport flights for “hire or reward” (Civil Aviation Authority Rule 135). Our Commercial pilots regularly carry out scenic flights, banner towing, aerial photography, frost protection, passenger transfers, and more. Only companies that have an Air Operators Certificate can conduct these flights, and it is the experience that our graduates obtain from these flights, which helps kick start their careers and separate them from “the rest”. Our graduates can be found in all in all parts of the industry in New Zealand and around the world including rescue, utility, oil, tourism, agriculture and corporate work.
